San Diego Retirees Relocate to Norton Lake in Campton Hills

Campton Hills, IL (February 26, 2024)–Bill and Diana Rash, San Diego County natives, had grown increasingly frustrated with the cost of living in California.  With their son and his family living in Geneva, Bill and Diana decided to pursue a move to Illinois.

“We’d actually visited Norton Lake years ago but weren’t ready to make a move,” Diana said.  “California became so expensive we decided it was time to revisit a move to Illinois. We spent about 18 months looking at new and resale homes in the area when our realtor suggested we visit Norton Lake again.  The sales manager, Jaynelle, took us on a tour of the community to show us available homesites. We fell in love with a gorgeous lake view homesite that backs up to acres of open space and snapped it up that day.”

Nestled just west of Randall Road in the charming Village of Campton Hills, Norton Lake is a Shodeen Homes community of ranch and two-story single-family homes centered around a 10-acre, spring-fed lake and served by St. Charles District #303 schools, including Bell Graham Elementary, which is within walking distance.

“We chose the Abigail ranch plan,” Diana said “We were very impressed with the generous upgrades and ability to customize the home.  We really enjoy our sunroom as well as the large bedrooms and full basement, which is something we never had in California.”

Retirees, Diana and Bill Rash, relocated from San Diego to Norton Lake for a more affordable lifestyle and to be closer to family in Mill Creek.

Highlights of the 2,725-square foot Abigail ranch include three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, island kitchen open to the daily dining area and great room, formal dining room, study, master bedroom with private luxury bath and walk-in closet, 9’ ceilings, full basement and attached two-car garage with additional storage area.

In addition to the sunroom, Bill and Diana added a bay window to the front bedroom, extended the kitchen dining area and added a bigger island, added additional windows and transom windows throughout, a vaulted ceiling in the living room and tray ceilings in the dining room and bedroom and added a door to the backyard from the master bedroom to accommodate their German Shepard and Beagle’s outdoor needs.

“Our son lives in Shodeen’s Mill Creek community, and they have been very happy with their home and neighborhood,” Diana said.  “We’ve been in our home since December 28th and are very pleased and impressed with Shodeen’s responsiveness and overall customer service. When anything has come up, the project manager is usually at our door to assist within minutes of us emailing customer service.”

When asked how they would rank Shodeen on a scale of 1 to 10, both Bill and Diana gave Shodeen an enthusiastic 10.

In addition to energy-saving appliances, insulation, windows and doors, each Shodeen home is backed by a 1,5 and 10-year warranty. The first year is a comprehensive home warranty with follow up visits at 30 days and 11 months after move in. The home is also insured for five years for water penetration in the foundation and for 10 years on major structural elements.

Norton Lake residents are minutes from Metra train service in downtown Geneva and Elburn as well as access to I-88 and I-90. Shops, restaurants and other services, such as Northwestern Medicine’s Delnor Hospital, are found along nearby Randall Road.
