Skokie Retirees Build Dream Home at Edgewood Vistas in Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva, WI – May 18, 2023– After 29 years in Skokie and with retirement on the horizon, Santiago ‘Sandy’ Echeveste and his wife Terri, a Milwaukee native, decided it was time to look to life’s next chapter.

“We knew we wanted to move to Wisconsin to be closer to Terri’s mom in Milwaukee and had friends who bought at Shodeen’s Stone Ridge neighborhood in Lake Geneva who encouraged us to take a look,” Sandy said.  “We visited Stone Ridge and learned that Shodeen was building another new community, Edgewood Vistas, but that it was still in its development stage with nothing but a trailer on it.  We were impressed with the quality and customer service our friends experienced at Stone Ridge and met with the Edgewood Vistas community sales manager, Joyce Michel, who was very informative and helpful. While the development of Edgewood Vistas was underway, we continued looking at other communities in Wisconsin but were drawn back to Edgewood Vistas.”

Edgewood Vistas is Shodeen Homes’ newest community and offers 59 ranch and two-story single-family homes ranging from 1,600 to 2,230 square feet with prices starting from the $370s. Homes offer three or four bedrooms, two or 2 ½ baths and two or 2 ½-car garages.  All homes include full, unfinished basements as well as fully sodded and landscaped homesites.

“We fell in love with the homesite we ultimately chose – it offered wooded views up on a hill, surrounded by nature preserves and offered unobstructed sunset views,” Sandy said.  “Having lived in an older home in Skokie, we wanted an open concept ranch plan with big bedrooms, big closets and big baths, which is what we found in the Greenfield ranch plan.

Offering 1,804 square feet of living space, the Greenfield ranch includes three bedrooms, two full baths, island kitchen with dining area open to the family room, full basement and attached two-car garage.

“I really liked that the basement is included and is the same square footage as the house,” said Sandy.  “We added rough-in plumbing and plan to finish it in the future. Because Edgewood Vistas was so new they didn’t have a Greenfield for us to look at so we visited Shodeen’s Elburn Station community and spoke with a gentleman living there in a Greenfield. He had nothing but great things to say about his home and Shodeen.

Features that are included in every Edgewood Vistas home include wide plank engineered hardwood flooring in kitchens, foyers and powder rooms, granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances, painted trim, baseboards and six-panel doors, ceramic tile flooring in bathrooms and a 1- 5- and 10-year warranty program.

Energy-efficient features include a house wrap air infiltration barrier system, 92% energy efficient forced air gas furnace, high-efficiency central air conditioning, Energy Star Power 50-gallon hot water heater and insulated sidewall, vapor barrier, attic and exterior basement walls.

“From the time we met Joyce in the sales trailer, to meeting with Carol (Sachs – Design Center Consultant) in the design center to Brian (Spath) our construction manager, we’ve had nothing but the best service,” Sandy said.  “Everyone is easy to communicate with, very responsive and detail-oriented. On a scale of 1 – to-10, I would give Shodeen a 10.”

The community, which about one mile from downtown Lake Geneva, is set among rolling hills and bordered by 2.7 acres of mature trees that will include a future nature walking path. Children attend Lake Geneva School District J1, including Badger High School.

“Terri and I have walked to downtown several times,” Sandy said.  “We look forward to enjoying Lake Geneva and the surrounding area this summer as well as the biking trails and there are plenty of courses nearby for my new golf addiction.”

The Lake Geneva area is known for its 5,400-square-foot lake and 21-mile shore path that offer endless year-round recreational opportunities. Lake Geneva residents can take advantage of a myriad of 5-star dining options, seven area championship golf courses, boat rentals through numerous marinas, Lake Geneva Cruise line’s ice cream social and dinner cruises, four beaches, Timber Ridge Water Park, zip lining adventures, scooter tours and more.
